Tahitian pearls, also known as "Black Pearls," come from the black-tipped oyster found in the waters off Tahati and many other Pacific Island areas. The oysters can grow to be very large, which explains the larger than normal size of the pearls. These black Tahitian pearls are highly valued because of their rarity. With shades ranging from gray to solid black with green blue or rose overtones, their appearance can be simply breath taking.
